2014 Post Free Agency Mock Draft

Here is my Post Scouting Combine 2014 NFL Mock Draft. It will be followed by regular updates after the NFL Scouting Combine up until the NFL Draft on May 8th.

My mock draft has been linked by The Football Fan Spot, Sports Jabber, DC Pro Sports ReportWalter Football, FF Toolbox, hailRedskins.com, The Football ExpertFantasy Football Help Desk, The Huddle Report, Niners Nation, EDS Football, NFL Mock Draft Central and NFL Pro Zach in their Mock Draft Databases.

This is not a mock draft where I attempt play general manager and substitute my own judgment for the 32 NFL teams.

I do my best to research what particular players or positions each team may be targeting based upon the opinions of reliable beat writers, scouts and insiders in order to provide links and then my analysis as to why a team may be focusing on a particular player.

1st Round

1. Houston Texans – Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A and M: Houston is doing a stellar job of masking their target for the #1 overall pick, having been linked to nearly all of the top players in this year's draft. While the current flavor of the month is Jadeveon Clowney, like Mario Williams, he's not an ideal fit for a 3-4 defense. On the other hand, the Texans desperately need a franchise QB who can help them win immediately, and Johnny Manziel is probably the player most likely to immediately impact games in this year's QB class due to his dynamic scrambling ability.

2. Atlanta Falcons (via projected trade with St. Louis) – Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina: With needs at LT and DE, Atlanta can either stay put at #6 and select the best available offensive lineman, or be proactive and trade up for the draft's best player in South Carolina DE Jadeveon Clowney. I'd discount concerns about Clowney's effort given that he made little attempt to hide the fact that he was playing last season not to get hurt in light of his displeasure with the NCAA rule that requires players to remain in school for three years before declaring for the NFL Draft.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars – Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson: Much like the Browns, Jacksonville owner Shad Khan has already disclosed that he intends on finding a new quarterback for the Jaguars somewhere in this draft. The Jaguars will face perhaps the toughest question in the draft in deciding whether or not to draft that QB at #3, or selecting a higher rated impact player at another position like DE or WR. I'm thinking that if Jadeveon Clowney and Johnny Manziel are both off the board, Sammy Watkins will be the pick for the Jaguars.

4. Cleveland Browns - Khalil Mack, OLB, Buffalo: Is there a more dysfunctional franchise in all of pro sports right now than the Cleveland Browns? Regardless of who their coach is, the Browns won't be going anywhere until they find a franchise quarterback. While they have the ammunition to go get one, it seems like Cleveland is leaning towards waiting until pick #26 or even #35 before they select one. In fact, new head coach Mike Pettine seems to be sizing up Khalil Mack as his version of Mario Williams with the Browns.

http://espn.go.com/blog/cleveland-browns/post/_/id/4840/nfl-draft-the-top-five

5. Oakland Raiders - Greg Robinson, OT, Auburn: If there's a front office that can rival the Cleveland Browns for ineptness, it's the Oakland Raiders, who apparently think they are only six or seven aging veterans away from contending for the Super Bowl. I'd like to think that the reports that the Raiders are not seriously considering a QB in the 1st Round are just a smoke screen, but then again, it's the Raiders. While Greg Robinson would be a solid pick, Reggie McKenzie is clearly looking to win a few games now in order to save his job instead of finding a long term QB and rebuilding like he should.

6. St. Louis Rams (via projected trade with Atlanta) – Jake Mathews, OT, Texas A and M: With St. Louis set at DE, and with WR's like Sammy Watkins historically devalued by Jeff Fisher, the Rams can afford to trade back and still address their primary need at LT. That would be especially true if Fisher prefers Jake Mathews over Greg Robinson, which would make sense given his relationship with Jake's father, former NFL All-Pro OL Bruce Mathews.

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Mike Evans, WR, Texas A and M: After having addressed many of their needs in a very aggressive start to the free agency period, the Buccaneers could still use another WR. While it initially looked like they simply needed a speedy receiver to play in the slot, Mike Williams finally wore out his welcome in Tampa Bay after getting stabbed in the thigh by his brother, making either Mike Evans or Plaxico Burress his ideal replacement.

http://tbo.com/list/sports-columns-mfennelly/fennelly-right-move-bucs-now-get-a-receiver-20140405/

8. Minnesota Vikings – Blake Bortels, QB, Central Florida: While Minnesota may be content to wait until the 2nd Round to select a QB, if Blake Bortels were to fall to #9 he may be too good of a prospect for the Vikings to pass up.

http://www.startribune.com/video/251117041.html#hpmrt

9. Buffalo Bills – Taylor Lewan, OT, Michigan: Buffalo could go for an OT in the first round, or they could target an OLB, TE or WR. If a legitimate LT like Taylor Lewan is still available, the Bills could move Cordy Glenn to a more natural position like RT or even G where he could put his physicality to better use.

http://q.usatoday.com/2014/02/10/buffalo-bills-nfl-draft-needs-offseason-plan-top-prospects/

10. Detroit Lions - Anthony Barr, LB, UCLA: Don't mistake the Lions doing their due diligence on Sammy Watkins for an interest in trading up to the #2 spot to select him, because that's not going to happen. If Mike Evans is off the board, I'm starting to think that Detroit will pass on a CB even if they have their choice of Justin Gilbert and Darqueze Dennard. The Lions would really like to improve their pass rush, and OLB Anthony Barr may be the three down "flamethrower" that new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is looking for at the SAM position.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2014/04/detroit_lions_want_a_flamethro.html;
http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=C4&Dato=20140403&Kategori=SPORTS01&Lopenr=304030086&Ref=PH

11. Tennessee Titans – Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State: With Alterraun Verner leaving in free agency, the Titans have a huge hole at CB. An OLB with proven pass rush skills like Anthony Barr would also be a consideration to fill a need in their new 3-4 defense depending on what Detroit does at #10.

http://www.tennessean.com/story/titansinsider/2014/04/08/alterraun-verner-titans-jason-mccourty-coty-sensabaugh-blidi-wre-wilson-tommie-campbell/7463257/

12. New York Giants – Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina: The Giants still have needs across the board, but an athletic TE like Eric Ebron might represent the best value at #11 if the top three OT's are off the board. DT Aaron Donald of Pitt could also be a strong consideration.

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-giants/post/_/id/35232/big-blue-morning-tackling-tackle

13. St Louis Rams - Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State: St. Louis could stand to upgrade their secondary at both CB and S. With Darqueze Dennard grading out higher than any of the safeties on the board, CB would be the most logical pick for the Rams with their second selection in the 1st Round.

14. Chicago Bears – Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State: Timmy Jernigan of Florida State or Aaron Donald of Pittsburgh would seem to be a perfect fits for the Bears as the type of disruptive and penetrating DT who could replace Henry Melton at the "3-Technique."

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/25699718-606/bears-challenged-to-fix-defense-like-they-fixed-offense.html;
http://nfltraderumors.co/seahawks-reportedly-love-pittsburgh-dt-aaron-donald/

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – Aaron Donald, DT/DE, Pittsburgh: The "Steel Curtain" is broken, and local product Aaron Donald would be the first step in restoring it to its former glory with his non-stop motor as a DE in Pittsburgh's 3-4 scheme.

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2014/02/03/Ray-Fittipaldo-s-Steelers-chat-transcript-02-03-14/stories/201402030126;

16. Dallas Cowboys - Kony Ealy, DE, Missouri: The Dallas Cowboys are officially rebuilding, Jerry Jones just doesn't realize it yet. The four most important positions in the "Tampa-Two" are DE, DT, WLB and S. Unfortunately, the Cowboys have huge needs at three of those four positions. While Kony Ealy may be a bit of a reach at #16, DE is a position of such importance in Rod Marinelli's system that the Cowboys can't afford to ignore it if Jerry Jones expects to win many games this year. While re-signing DE Anthony Spencer wouldn't hurt, it wouldn't be a solution by itself either.

17. Baltimore Ravens - C.J. Mosley, LB, Alabama: Daryl Smith adequately filled the shoes of Ray Lewis last season, but Baltimore lost another MLB in Jameel McClain this offseason. With the addition of Steve Smith at WR filling one need, ILB C.J. Mosley could help bring the Ravens defense back to being an elite unit. While T could also be an option, the Ravens need is at RT, which is a position that could just as easily be found in the 2nd Round.

http://baltimoresportsandlife.com/baltimore-ravens/ravens-first-round-scouting-report-c-j-mosley

18. New York Jets Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State: The Jets instantly improved their offense by signing Michael Vick, now they need to find him another legitimate receiving target to go along with Eric Decker, who's been more of a #2 receiver throughout his career. Kelvin Benjamin fits the bill of a bigger receiver who can develop into a true #1 target over the next year or two.

19. Miami Dolphins – Zach Martin, T, Notre Dame: The Dolphins addressed the left side of their offensive line in free agency, but still could stand to add another piece or two to the puzzle on the right side via the draft. Zack Martin has the ability to play either RT or RG, giving Miami some much needed flexibility. Even if Taylor Lewan of Michigan happens to be on the board, I can't see him being a consideration for Miami given that he has been charged with battery and is being questioned in connection with allegedly intimidating the victim in a teammate's rape investigation in two separate incidents.

20. Arizona Cardinals - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville
: The Cardinals can either address a need like S or RT, or go with the best player available with their pick at #20. A tall S like Calvin Pryor would not only fill one of their needs, but provide the Cardinals with better value than any of the remaining OL candidates. They could also consider the explosive Brandin Cooks to play slot receiver and draw some coverage away from Larry Fitzgerald.

http://espn.go.com/blog/arizona-cardinals/post/_/id/5550/cards-top-needs-with-1-month-to-first-round

21. Green Bay Packers - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama: The lack of a playmaker at S was a huge problem for Green Bay last season. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of Alabama would give the Packers some much needed range and ball-skills in the back end of their defense.

22. Philadelphia Eagles - Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State: Philadelphia could use a S to take over starting duties from Nate Allen, but they also created a need at WR by releasing their best big play threat, DeSean Jackson. If Calvin Pryor and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix are both off the board, the Eagles could turn to Brandin Cooks as an explosive threat at WR to compensate for the loss of Jackson.

http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2014/03/nfl_draft_2014_could_brandin_cooks_replace_desean_jackson_for_eagles.html

23. Kansas City Chiefs - Marqise Lee, WR, USC: The Chiefs could go in several different directions in this year's draft, whether it's S, CB, WR or TE. WR Marqise Lee of USC is a safer option than other options like Kelvin Benjamin and Odell Beckham, Jr. of LSU.

http://www.kansascity.com/2014/02/17/4830556/chiefs-chat-with-terez-a-paylor.html

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Bradley Roby CB, Ohio State: On paper the Bengals look good at CB, but they are aging and injury prone. Leon Hall is coming off his second Achilles injury, and pro athletes aren't always lucky enough to come back after one Achilles injury, let alone two. Bradley Roby of Ohio State struggled at times last season, but he has the size and speed at CB that NFL teams covet.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2014/02/04/scribe-session-2-4-14-dan-hoard-edition/

25. San Diego Chargers - Dee Ford, OLB/DE, Auburn: With the versatility to excel at either DE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4, Dee Ford would give the Chargers a much needed edge pass rusher. CB and T could also be considerations depending on who might fall to the later part of the first round, but in this scenario, a pass rusher like Ford represents the best value of any remaining player.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/feb/03/2014-nfl-mock-draft-chargers-third-round/

26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis) - Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville: The Browns could be gambling if they wait until their second pick in the 1st Round to try and find their new franchise QB. Their ideal situation would have one of the top QB's like Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr falling to pick #26, but Cleveland also needs to be aware of other QB needy teams trading back into the 1st Round and taking a signal caller in front of them, which could leave the Browns standing empty handed with a pocket full of draft picks when it comes to the QB position.

27. New Orleans Saints - Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech: With Patrick Robinson coming off of an injury, the Saints could really use some depth at CB, if not a starter. While Kyle Fuller is not of the caliber of a Justin Gilbert or a Darqueze Dennard, he is a big corner with the man-to-man cover skills that NFL teams value too much for him to slide into the 2nd Round.

28. Carolina Panthers - Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU: Not only do the Panthers still need a #2 WR, but now they need to find a #1 WR to replace Steve Smith after his pissing match with Dave Gettleman lead to his release. While a WR like Odell Beckham Jr. can replace Smith's explosiveness, there's practically no way Carolina can replicate Smith's heart or toughness on the field.

29. New England Patriots - Louis Nix III, NT, Notre Dame: Vince Wilfork is aging and injury prone. While he recently signed a three year contract, Wilfork is 32, and it was structured so that it is essentially just a one year deal. It would therefore make sense for New England to draft a NT to ultimately replace Wilfork in the event that he's released after this season, and Louis Nix III of Notre Dame is essentially as close to a clone to Wilfork as you can get.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1949453-br-nfl-1000-top-35-left-tackles

30. San Francisco 49ers - Jason Verrett, CB, Texas Christian: With Carlos Rogers and Tarell Brown both signing with the Raiders in free agency, the 49ers need to find one or two starting caliber CB's in the draft. Jason Verrett of Texas Christian has excellent cover and ball skills, but could drop due to concerns about his size. At the very least, Verrett would make an ideal nickel back at the NFL level.

31. Denver Broncos - Ra'Shede Hageman, DT/DE, Minnesota: The Broncos did a great job of beefing up their defense in free agency, but with Derek Wolfe coming off of a spinal injury, they could still stand to add a versatile DE/DT like Ra'Shede Hageman to their rotation. Hageman could end up being the steal of the draft considering that he played at Minnesota with very little fanfare or exposure.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_25175895/broncos-prepare-address-needs-upcoming-nfl-draft

32. Seattle Seahawks - Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame: The Seahawks have relatively few weaknesses after winning the Super Bowl, although they did suffer some losses at DE with Red Bryant and Chris Clemmons departing via free agency. A base DE like Stephon Tuitt could help alleviate those losses and help maintain Seattle's stout run defense.

http://blogs.seattletimes.com/seahawks/2014/02/05/the-blitz-thursday-live-chat/

2nd Round

33. Houston Texans - Kyle Van Noy, OLB: The Texans will be looking for another disruptive OLB. Kyle Van Noy was a playmaker in college, who could fit perfectly in the Houston's 3-4 scheme.

34. Washington Redskins - Cyrus Kouandjio, T, Alabama: Cyrus Kouandjio would not only provide additional protection for RG3 at RT, but a lineman of his size would open holes in the running game, making him an ideal fit with the Redskins.

Speaking of which, let's get the Redskins to change their name to the "Pigskins." It's not racist, it's a football reference that pay homage to Washington's fan base of the 1980's, they could still call themselves "The Skins," and a new hog related logo could help the team sell a boatload of merchandise...Seems like a win-win situation if you ask me.

http://www.hogshaven.com/2014/4/10/5600866/why-the-redskins-need-cyrus-kouandjio

35. Cleveland Browns - Donte Moncrief, WR, Mississippi: A speedster like Donte Moncrief opposite Josh Gordon would make the Cleveland offense downright scary, that is, unless they don't find a QB who can throw them the ball.

https://twitter.com/TonyGrossi

36. Oakland Raiders - Scott Crichton, DE, Oregon State: Once again, the Raiders need impact players at nearly every skilled position. DE is one of those, and Scott Crichton of Oregon State simply dominated in the Pac-12 the past few seasons.

http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2014/01/16/some-other-quick-hits-from-the-mckenzie-chat/

37. Atlanta Falcons - Morgan Moses, T, Virginia: Assuming Atlanta holds on to their 2nd Round pick, a LT to potentially replace Sam Baker would be the logical pick assuming they elect to go with a DE in the 1st Round.

38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida: With the Bucs moving back to a "Tampa-2" defense under new defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, they will need to modify their secondary to better fit that system. Local product Marcus Roberson of Florida would provide Tampa Bay with depth at CB, and be a better fit than Johnthan Banks, who struggled in his first year.

http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/center-signed-bucs-still-have-needs-in-free-agency/2170317

39. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State: Finding it too difficult to pass on Sammy Watkins with the third pick in the draft, the Jags must then find their QB of the future. Derek Carr is the only other signal caller who fits that bill, although Jacksonville may have to trade up back to the end of the first round to be assured that they can still get him.

40. Minnesota Vikings - Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State: Minnesota has a hole at OLB, and Ryan Shazier is a beast who can immediately slide into a starting role and make an impact.

http://www.startribune.com/video/251117041.html#hpmrt

41. Buffalo Bills - Dominique Easley, DE, Florida: New defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz loves his DE's, and Dominique Easley would have been a high first round pick but for a knee injury last season.

http://bills.buffalonews.com/2014/04/08/road-draft-anthony-barr/

42. Tennessee Titans - Kareem Martin, DE, North Carolina: After beefing up their secondary, Tennessee should look to bolster their pass rush. With OLB's Akeem Ayers and Zach Brown more traditional 4-3 LB's, Kareem Martin of North Carolina could fit in as a pass rush specialist for the Titans.

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140119/SPORTS01/301190056/Wyatt-Titans-roster-needs-makeover-key-positions

43. New York Giants - Xavier Su'a Filo, G/T, UCLA: As the Giants try to rebuild their offensive line to take some pressure off of Eli Manning, either Xavier Su'a Filo of UCLA or David Yankey of Stanford would give them a versatile player could either excel at either G or OT. If Su'a Filo makes it to pick #43, he's the higher rated option of the two.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2014/02/david_yankey_nfl_draft_stanford_guard_could_be_perfect_fit_for_giants.html

44. St. Louis Rams - Deone Bucannon, S, Washington State: If the Rams can address LT, CB and S with their first three picks, I think they'd be pretty happy. On top of that, if they can successfully trade down from pick #2, they could even land another 2nd Round pick where there will still be many top notch WR's available.

45. Detroit Lions - Jordan Mathews, WR, Vanderbilt: The Lions would be well served passing on Mike Evans in the 1st Round and targeting a more reliable WR like Jordan Mathews in the 2nd. Matthews may not be the fastest WR in the draft, but he might be the most polished. With route running and film study often outweighing speed when it comes to transitioning to the NFL, Matthews might not only be one of the safer picks at WR, but he would be an ideal compliment to Calvin Johnson as someone who can get open in single coverage and reliably catch the ball.

46. Pittsburgh Steelers - Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State: The Steelers are looking for a big receiver to play opposite of Antonio Brown, and if they address defense instead of WR in the 1st Round, Davante Adams of Fresno State could fill that role.

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2014/02/12/Gerry-Dulac-s-Steelers-chat-transcript-2-12-14/stories/201402120146

47. Dallas Cowboys - Lamarcus Joyner, CB/S, Florida State: Dallas could go for a S, a WLB, or address their OL in the 2nd Round. LaMarcus Joyner of Florida State is a hybrid CB/S, which would make him a perfect fit for the Cowboys at S in their "Two-Deep" defense, where safeties are taught to be interchangeable, and also need to be able to keep up with WR's in deep zone coverage.

48. Baltimore Ravens - Antonio Richardson, T, Tennessee: With Michael Oher leaving via free agency the Ravens have a need at RT, and if Antonio Richardson ultimately develops into a starter at LT, even better.

49. New York Jets - Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington: After addressing WR in the 1st Round, the Jets could finish overhauling their receiving corps by selecting an elite pass catching TE like Austin Seferian-Jenkins or Jace Amaro in the 2nd.

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/02/nfl_combine_jets_have_options_if_they_want_to_supplement_tight_end_position_in_nfl_draft.html

50. Miami Dolphins - Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi State: By taking a RT in the 1st Round and a top G like Gabe Jackson in the 2nd Round of the draft, the Dolphins could finish transforming an offensive line that was a huge problem last year into an asset this season.

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2014/03/steve-ross-not-worried-about-the-offensive-line.html

51. Chicago Bears - Jimmy Ward, S, LSU: After addressing DT in the first round, a hybrid S with ball hawking skills like Jimmy Ward of Northern Illinois would go a long way towards checking off most of the defensive needs of the Bears heading into the 2014 season.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/25699718-606/bears-challenged-to-fix-defense-like-they-fixed-offense.html;

52. Arizona Cardinals - David Yankey, G/T, Stanford: Arizona could look to address the interior of their OL or even RT with the versatile David Yankey of Stanford.

53. Green Bay Packers - Jeremiah Attaochu, DE/OLG, Georgia Tech: After unsuccessfully trying to convert several college DE's to play OLB in their 3-4 defense, it's time for Green Bay to go in the other direction and find a more athletic college LB to play opposite Clay Mathews. Jeremiah Attaochu of Georgia Tech has the skills to rush the passer, drop in coverage, and contain the edge against the run, all of which were all traits that Green Bay's OLB's noticeably lacked in their Divisional Playoff Game loss to Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers last January.

54. Philadelphia Eagles - Dion Bailey, S, USC: Philadelphia finished 32nd in the league in passing defense last season, and their biggest hole was at S. Dion Bailey of USC should be able to overtake Nate Allen and Earl Wolff as the other starting S opposite Malcolm Jenkins.

55. Cincinnati Bengals - Marcus Smith, DE, Louisville: Michael Johnson was a disappointment at DE in his contract year, so Cincinnati was smart to let him walk rather than overpaying him. Marcus Smith of Louisville was not only the heart and soul of one of the nation's top defenses, but he was also one of college football's best pass rushers.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2014/02/04/scribe-session-2-4-14-dan-hoard-edition/

56.  San Francisco 49ers - Paul Richardson, WR, Colorado: The 49ers biggest obstacle to returning to the Super Bowl are their division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks. The best way to counteract Seattle's super-sized secondary is with quickness, and that's where an explosive player like Paul Richardson in the slot could help not only negate the size advantage in the Seahawks' secondary, but possibly even turn it into a liability.

57. San Diego Chargers - Will Sutton, DT/DE, Arizona State: Will Sutton's draft stock fell some after he gained nearly 50 pounds and saw his production significantly drop from his junior to his senior seasons. The good news is that his weight gain appears to have been premeditated, so if Sutton can prove to front offices that he has lost that weight and that his explosiveness has returned, he could be the answer to San Diego's need on the interior of their defensive line.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/feb/03/2014-nfl-mock-draft-chargers-third-round/

58. New Orleans Saints - Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU: The locals are clamoring for New Orleans to address their need at WR with Jarvis Landry of LSU.

http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/2014/04/lsu_wide_receiver_jarvis_landr.html

59. Indianapolis Colts - Cyril Richardson, G, Baylor: The Colts would be wise to bolster the interior of their offensive line with at least two of their picks in this year's draft. Cyril Richardson of Baylor is a monster of a man who could clog interior pass rushing lanes and open up holes for the Colts' running game.

60. Carolina Panthers - Joe Bitonio, T, Nevada: Having lost LT Jordan Gross to retirement, the Panthers need to find a replacement early in this year's draft. Joe Bitonio is a smaller school option who more than held his own when Nevada played against big time opponents like Anthony Barr of UCLA.

61. San Francisco 49ers - Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida: Loucheiz Purifoy of Florida is an aggressive and physical CB who would make for an excellent pair with Jason Verrett if the 49ers were to take him in the 1st Rd.

62. New England Patriots - Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech: With Aaron Hernandez's career over and Rob Gronkowski heading back to see Dr. James Andrews, Jace Amaro of Texas A&M seems to be New England's prime target to replace Hernandez at TE given his size and pass catching ability.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1967930-karen-guregian-patriots-focusing-on-aaron-hernandez-clone-jace-amaro-at-te\

63. Denver Broncos - Chris Borland, ILB, Wisconsin: Chris Borland of Wisconsin is an instinctive player who can fill a hole at ILB for the Broncos, which is one of their final needs on defensive after a busy free agency period.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_25175895/broncos-prepare-address-needs-upcoming-nfl-draft

64. Seattle Seahawks - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska: Stanley Jean-Baptiste is not the fastest CB, but he has great size. There's probably no better mutual fit between team and player than Jean-Baptiste and the Seahawks, where he can ultimately replace Brandon Browner as one of the super-sized DB's that Seattle prefers.

Detroit Lions Potential Picks, Rounds 3 - 7

Here's how the rest of the 2014 Draft could work out in terms of projected value and need for the Detroit Lions:

Round 3,  Pick No. 12 - Craig Loston, S, LSU: While strong safety Glover Quinn is solid, he lacks the speed to be a true free safety, while recent free agent signee James Ihedigbo is more of a one year bridge/backup at strong safety. Craig Loston is someone who can contribute immediately on special teams and ultimately work his way into a starting role.

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/tag/_/name/craig-loston

Round 4, Pick No. 11 - Aaron Murray, QB, Georgia: The Lions are going to regret not freeing up enough money to re-sign Shawn Hill, who may have been the best backup QB in the league. Jim Caldwell should know that Dan Orlovsky is not the answer, as his inability to adequately replace Peyton Manning helped cost him his job in Indianapolis three years ago.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2014/04/report_detroit_lions_meet_with.html

Round 4, Compensatory Pick - Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State: Not only is Weston Richburg one of the top three centers in this year's draft, but he seems to be very interested in playing for the Lions. The feeling should be mutual. With Dominic Raiola nearing the final years of his career, Richburg could serve as an understudy and even help the Lions out as a backup G. Gabe Ikard could also be a later round option at C.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2014/01/detroit_lions_weston_richburg.html

Round 4, Compensatory Pick - C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa: Even after the Lions retained the much maligned Brandon Pettigrew in free agency, they should be looking for a hybrid TE who can block and serve as a weapon in the passing game in order to keep second year player Mike Williams on the practice squad. At 6-5 and 260 pounds, C.J. Fiedorowicz fits that bill, having been known as a solid blocker and being more athletic as a receiver than many think.

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/5313/lions-position-outlook-tight-ends

Round 6, Pick No. 13 - Denicos Allen, OLB, Michigan State: While the Lions haven't placed much emphasis on strong side LB in recent years, new defensive coordinator Teryl Austin has expressed a willingness to blitz more than the Jim Schwartz regime. That would make a lighter and athletic OLB like Denicos Allen as an ideal late round pick as a developmental project who can both drop back into coverage and rush the passer, allowing Ashley Palmer to serve primarily as a backup at the "Mike" and "Will" LB positions.

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/tag/_/name/denicos-allen

Round 7 - Pick No. 12 - Cody Parkey, K, Auburn: Prior to the David Akers debacle last season, the Lions only had two PK's from 1980 through 2012 in Eddie Murray in Jason Hanson, either of whom the Lions would have probably signed last season had they been interested.

Either Martin Mayhew lied about the Lions' salary cap situation, or Jim Caldwell didn't learn from his mistakes.

GM Martin Mayhew and the Detroit Lions claim that Ndamukong Suh's contract re-negotiation, which many believe is needed to create extra salary cap space, "Has absolutely no impact on the Lions' free agent pursuits."

I'm calling bullshit.

Why else would the Lions let backup QB Shaun Hill sign with the St. Louis Rams?

Worse yet, why else would they sign Dan Orlovsky as their primary backup QB to Mathew Stafford?

You might remember Orlovsky from such films as, "The Quarterback Who Didn't Realize That He Ran Out of the Back of the Endzone For a Safety," and "The Year the Detroit Lions Went 0-16."

It never ceases to amaze me how NFL teams fail to realize how important the position of backup QB is until they need one.

If salary cap wasn't a factor, do you really think that Jim Caldwell would endorse a backup QB that was so pathetic that he helped cost him his job as the head coach of the Indianapolis Colts only two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance the one year Peyton Manning got injured?

And if that's the case, then Jim Caldwell didn't learn from his biggest mistake during his tenure as coach of the Colts...Not realizing the importance of having a good backup QB.

And make no mistake about it, Shaun Hill is as good of a backup QB as there is in the NFL.

In 34 career games Hill has gone 13 and 13 as a starter with some pretty bad San Francisco and Detroit teams, compiled a quarterback rating of 85.9, and posted a touchdown-to-interception ratio of nearly 2-to-1 (41 touchdowns, 23 interceptions).

That's why it's sickening that it would have only cost the Lions an extra $900,000 on a one year deal to keep Hill over Orlovsky ($1,750,000 for Hill vs. $885,000 for Orlovsky).

Given the way that Hill had performed in Detroit for Mayhew, and the way that Orlovsky performed in Indianapolis under Caldwell, that leads me to believe that salary cap really was an issue for the Lions.

When you have a strong backup QB, you just don't let him walk away for a contract less than 1 million dollars over the veteran minimum.

If true, the Martin Mayhew and the Detroit Lions made a mistake...A VERY big mistake.

Worse yet, the Lions still need a viable backup QB.

Drafting Mike Evans in the 1st Round would be the wrong move.

There are several reasons that the Detroit Lions should pass on Mike Evans should he be available when they select with the 10th overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

First off, while many people have fallen in love with his production in college and his 40-yard dash time at the Scouting Combine, I have serious questions about his ability to run routes at the NFL level.

Evans not only benefited from playing pitch and catch with Johnny Manziel in college, but from Texas A and M's spread offense as well.

Mike Evans has several red-flags that scream "NFL bust."

And if there's one variable that can be used to predict which college WR's will turn into busts in the NFL, it's receivers who played in a spread offenses and never learned a pro-style route tree.

While Evans had a pretty good career in college using his size and running to specific spots to get open, my biggest concern after watching his film is his quickness and burst coming out of his breaks, and that scares the shit out of me considering that Mike Williams had similar limitations.

If this picture doesn't make you vomit in your mouth I don't know what will...And I'm not even talking about the Lions' busts at WR, I'm talking about Matt Millen's "Raidered up" black jerseys.

Speaking of size, my next concern is Evans' fit in the Lions' offense. With Calvin Johnson, Joseph Fauria, Kris Durham and (maybe) Brandon Pettigrew, Detroit has no shortage of tall receivers.

Now if Detroit is looking for a long term replacement for Calvin Johnson, I get it.

But if Detroit is just looking for a complimentary #2 WR, they might want to look at someone who's a little quicker and can easily beat the single coverage he'll likely see opposite of Megatron with his route running, whether he's playing in the slot or as the "Z" receiver.

Which brings us to the opportunity cost of drafting a WR in the 1st Round, or what you'd be giving up, relatively speaking, to select one.

With this draft being deep at WR but thin when it comes to lock down corners, the Lions need to consider trading down or drafting a CB like Justin Gilbert or Darqueze Dennard in the 1st Round, because the CB's that will be available when they select in the 2nd Round will represent a significant drop in talent.

On the other hand, this is perhaps the deepest WR draft ever, with a "plug and play" safe option like Jordan Mathews of Vanderbilt who is expected to be available when the Lions select in the 2nd Round at pick #45.

While Jordan Matthews played in a pseudo spread offense at Vanderbilt, he demonstrated excellent route running ability at The Senior Bowl

Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe the Lions talent evaluators think Mike Evans is a sure thing.

Then again, maybe I'm right about his red flags, in which case not only would the Lions miss out on the lock down CB that they truly need, they could also be looking at their third WR bust with a top ten pick in the last 11 years, and their sixth when it comes to drafting WR's the first three rounds.

2014 Post Scouting Combine Mock Draft

1st Round

1. Houston Texans – Johnny Manziel, QB, Texas A and M: The Texans have a new coach, who in turn needs a new quarterback. Houston seems to be focusing on local product Johnny Manziel, while "Johnny Football" has made it very clear that he wants the Texans to select him with the number one pick. Watch for Cleveland as a potential partner for Houston to trade down with in the even that they are not sold on any of the available QB's.

http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/article/Manziel-fills-the-bill-of-No-1-draftee-5243235.php?t=df9eff65bbcc308649

2. St. Louis Rams – Sammy Watkins, WR, Clemson: I look for the Rams to try and trade down and still have the opportunity to select a top rated tackle or the go-to WR that Sam Bradford desperately needs. If the Rams can't make a move, not only does Sammy Watkins seem to be a hot commodity following the Scouting Combine, but Jeff Fisher has a history of avoiding offensive linemen with his first round picks. So while a LT is still a huge need, an elite WR seems like the more likely option for their first pick in the first round.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars – Jadeveon Clowney, DE, South Carolina: Much like the Browns, Jacksonville owner Shad Khan has already disclosed that he intends on finding a new quarterback for the Jaguars. The Jaguars will face perhaps the toughest question in the draft in deciding whether or not to draft that QB at #3, or address another huge need at DE with Jadeveon Clowney, who is by far the most talented player coming out of college this year.

I find it funny how some scouts and Steve Spurrier have questioned Clowney's motivation and work ethic. Think about it for just a second. This kid was supposed to be the clear cut #1 pick heading into this year's draft after his Sophomore season, and he made no attempt to hide the fact that he did not want to remain in college for another year. Clowney clearly played last season not to get hurt, which explains his perceived lack of effort and production, especially against lesser opponents. He then showed up at the Combine and blew everyone away with his 40 time just to remind everyone how talented he truly is. Jacksonville would be foolish to pass Clowney up now that he's ready to move to on to the big stage that he's been seeking.

4. Cleveland Browns - Teddy Bridgewater, QB, Louisville: Is there a more dysfunctional franchise in all of pro sports right now than the Cleveland Browns? Having blown through two head coaches and two GM's in just over a year, it's been rumored that the Browns offered to trade their entire 2014 draft for San Francisco 49er head coach Jim Harbaugh. Regardless of who their coach is, the fact of matter is that the Browns won't be going anywhere until they find a franchise quarterback. They have the ammunition to go get one, now the question is whether or not those calling the shots will be able to make the right call and find one.

5. Oakland Raiders - Jake Mathews, T, Texas A and M: Oakland has huge needs at key positions like QB, WR and DE. If Johnny Manziel, Teddy Bridgewater, Jadeveon Clowney and Sammy Watkins are all off the board by the time Oakland picks at #5 it would be the worst case scenario for the Raiders. Look for Oakland to either trade down, or stay put and take an OT like Jake Mathews with Jared Veldheer currently unsigned and set to hit free agency. In that event, the Raiders could look to add a veteran QB like Josh Freeman or Michael Vick free agency.

6. Atlanta Falcons – Greg Robinson, T, Auburn: Whether it's Jake Mathews or Greg Robinson, the Falcons desperately need help at OT. Robinson would be an immediate and much needed upgrade over current LT Sam Baker.

7. Tampa Bay Bucanneers – Anthony Barr, DE/OLB, UCLA: The Buccaneers are going back to a "Tampa Two" defense under new head coach Lovie Smith, which means they will put a premium on getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks from their front four without the benefit of many blitzes. Anthony Barr of UCLA is probably a better fit as a LB in a 3-4 scheme, but there are too many 4-3 teams in need of a pass rusher from the DE position who are drafting in the top ten to let a player of Barr's skill-set slide. Tampa Bay is one of those teams, and they already have larger run stopping DE's to allow Barr serve as a pass rush specialist while he bulks up into a 3-down player at DE.

8. Minnesota Vikings – Blake Bortels, QB, Central Florida: Unless they really see something they like in Blake Bortels or Derek Carr, the Vikings could find themselves on the ass end of the QB lottery. As of right now there's enough hype around Bortels to support him being a top ten pick. With Matt Cassel voiding his option for the 2014 season, I don't think the Vikings have any other choice. Then again, there's no guarantee that Bortels will even be available when Minnesota picks at #8.

9. Buffalo Bills – Khalil Mack, OLB/DE, Buffalo: Buffalo could go for an OT in the first round, or they could target an OLB, TE or a WR. If local product Khalil Mack is available when the Bills pick at #9 he could be too tempting to pass up. And while new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has never placed much value in OLB's, Mack also has considerable value on passing downs, potentially playing with his hand on the ground.

10. Detroit Lions – Justin Gilbert, CB, Oklahoma State: The biggest needs for the Lions are an elite CB and a WR to play opposite Calvin Johnson. Because this is a deep WR draft, the Lions would be wise to get a lock down corner while one is still available in Round 1, and then fill their need for a #2 receiver with someone like Jordan Mathews on the second day of the draft. While local product Darqueze Dennard of Michigan State is also an option at CB, the Lions have expressed an interest in bigger corners, making Justin Gilbert of Oklahoma State the more likely target, especially in light of the fantastic 4.37 40-yard dash that he ran at the Scouting Combine.

11. Tennessee Titans – C.J. Mosley, OLB, Alabama: With a huge need at pass rusher and OLB, C.J. Mosley would provide the Titans with the hybrid OLB that they need as they transition into more of a 3-4 defense.

http://www.tennessean.com/article/20140119/SPORTS01/301190056/Wyatt-Titans-roster-needs-makeover-key-positions

12. New York Giants – Taylor Lewan, T, Michigan: The Giants offensive line is a complete mess, and tackle is the best place to start to address that problem. Drafting a true LT would have a positive cascade effect, allowing Will Beatty to move to RT and Justin Pugh to G. While Taylor Lewan never quite lived up to his hype at Michigan either on or off the field, he seems to have cemented his status as the #3 LT at the Scouting Combine.

13. St Louis Rams - Zack Martin, OT, Notre Dame: In this scenario the Rams have already landed a #1 WR in Sammy Watkins, so they can look to solidify their offensive line with their second pick in the first round. Alternatively, they could target Jake Mathews with their first pick and a WR like Mike Evans or Marqise Lee with their second, but going WR first and LT second plays out as the better value with Sammy Watkins as the clear cut top WR in this year's draft.

14. Chicago Bears – Timmy Jernigan, DT, Florida State: The Bears aging defense has finally caught up to them, and they now must address major holes at CB, S, LB, and DT...And that's before a salary cap decision has even been made on Julius Peppers. A DT will have to be a consideration should Henry Melton leave in free agency, as would a playmaker at S like Alabama's Ha Ha Clinton-Dix in the event that Melton returns. Timmy Jernigan of Florida State or Aaron Donald of Pittsburgh would seem to be a perfect fits for the Bears as disruptive and penetrating DT's who can play the "3-Technique."

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2014/02/04/hoge-2014-bears-mock-draft-1-0/

15. Pittsburgh Steelers – Louis Nix III, DT, Notre Dame: The Steel Curtain is broken with holes at key positions like NT, S and OLB. Louis Nix III would have to be a strong consideration at NT given Steve McLendon's inability to stop the run last season in a failed bid to replace Casey Hampton. With age and injuries limiting Troy Polamalu's playing time and effectiveness in recent years, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of Alabama could also be an intriguing option at S.

16. Dallas Cowboys - Aaron Donald, DT, Pittsburgh: Dallas finally realized the deficiencies in Monte Kiffin's "Tampa Two" defense given their existing personnel, so they replaced him with....wait for it....Monte Kiffin...I mean Rod Marinelli, who's an even more stubborn version of Kiffin when it comes to not modifying his defensive schemes. With that said, the three most essential pieces in the "Tampa Two" defense are a disruptive DT, a "Will" LB, and athletic safeties who can patrol the deep zone. With the Cowboys in need of help at both DT and S, Dallas would love to add either Aaron Donald, Timmy Jernigan or Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

17. Baltimore Ravens – Mike Evans, WR, Texas A and M: Baltimore still seems to have some interest in re-signing free agent LT Eugene Monroe. However, Monroe hasn't graded out well enough over the past few seasons to justify a big contract, so Baltimore may want to start from scratch with a young LT that new offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak can develop in his zone blocking scheme. However, if Taylor Lewan of Michigan and Zack Martin of Notre Dame are both off the board when the Ravens pick at #17, they could be in the market for a WR like Mike Evans or Marqise Lee, who would represent better values under Ozzie Newsome's BPA philosophy.

18. New York Jets – Marqise Lee, WR, USC: The Jets desperately need to improve their passing game, and with the team committed to Geno Smith at QB, they need to find him some legitimate receiving targets. The question remains as to whether or not one of the top three WR's will still be on the board when the Jets select at #18. In this case the Jets have their choice of either WR Marqise Lee or the draft's top TE in Eric Ebron, which is also a position of need.

19. Miami Dolphins Morgan Moses, T, Virginia: With Miami potentially losing the entire left side of their offensive line to the Ritchie Incognito-Jonathan Martin bullying scandal, and needing two offensive linemen on the right side, the Dolphins have little choice but to address LT with their 1st Round pick. While Zack Martin and Morgan Moses could both be considerations, I can't see Taylor Lewan of Michigan being an option even if he's still on the board considering the police reports alleging that he tried to intimidate the victim in connection with teammate Brandon Gibbon's rape investigation.

20. Arizona Cardinals – Darqueze Dennard, CB, Michigan State: At #20 Arizona can either reach for a LT or take the best playmaker available at another position of need. Darqueze Dennard of Michigan State is the type of CB that you can place on an island, which would give the Cardinals the best pair of press corners in the NFL once paired with Patrick Peterson. Arizona could then address their need for a LT in either free agency or the second round.

21. Green Bay Packers - Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, S, Alabama: Green Bay has needs across the board on defense, and their first round selection will ultimately be determined by which of their own free agents they are able to re-sign. Finding an impact player on the defensive side of the ball is a must, and S was arguably their biggest void last season. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix of Alabama would give Green Bay some much needed range and ball-skills in the back end of their secondary.

22. Philadelphia Eagles - Calvin Pryor, S, Louisville: Philadelphia's finished 32nd in the league in passing defense last season, and their biggest hole was at S. Calvin Pryor of Louisville would be an instant upgrade, especially if the Eagles can re-sign and team him with Nate Allen.

http://www.pennlive.com/sports/index.ssf/2014/02/nfl_draft_2014_philadelphia_ea.html

23. Kansas City Chiefs - Eric Ebron, TE, North Carolina: Kansas City could go in several different directions in this year's draft such as S, CB, WR, TE or DL. With Alex Smith in need of another receiving target, WR could be an option. However, the Chiefs could satisfy the same need at better value should TE Eric Ebron of North Carolina fall to them at #23 in the draft. In fact, a TE with receiving skills may even be a better fit than a WR for Alex Smith considering the more conservative west coast passing scheme that the Chiefs employ.

http://www.kansascity.com/2014/01/17/4758281/nfl-draft-look-ahead-physical.html

24. Cincinnati Bengals - Lamarcus Joyner, CB/S, Florida State: On paper the Bengals look good at CB, but they are aging and injury prone. Leon Hall is coming off his second Achilles injury, and pro athletes aren't always lucky enough to come back from one Achilles injury, let alone two. Lamarcus Joyner is undersized, but he was a little stick of hate in the secondary for the National Champion Florida State Seminoles last season. Better yet, Joyner has the ability to play both CB and S, which could give the Bengals expanded range in pass coverage in their base defense at S, as well as at nickle on passing downs.

http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2014/02/04/scribe-session-2-4-14-dan-hoard-edition/

25. San Diego Chargers - Kony Ealy, OLB/DE, Missouri: With the versatility to excel at either DE in a 4-3 or OLB in a 3-4, Kony Ealy would give the Chargers another much needed edge rusher. CB and T could also be considerations depending on who might fall to the later part of the first round.

http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2014/Feb/19/2014-nfl-mock-draft-chargers-defense-clowney/5/?#article-copy

26. Cleveland Browns (from Indianapolis) - Kelvin Benjamin, WR, Florida State: This is not necessarily where I would go if I was Cleveland, but Mel Kiper Jr., Todd McShay and Tony Grossi all agree on the position, if not the player. Kelvin Benjamin's route running, hands, effort and blocking all raise red-flags, but there's no mistaking his raw physical talent as possibly the most gifted WR in this year's draft from a physical standpoint. CB also has to be a strong consideration for the Browns at #26.

27. New Orleans Saints - Marcus Roberson, CB, Florida: With Patrick Robinson coming off of an injury, the Saints could use depth, if not a starter at CB. Marcus Roberson of Florida is a big corner with man-to-man cover skills.

28. Carolina Panthers - Odell Beckham, Jr., WR, LSU: The Panthers need more explosion on offense, and Odell Beckham, Jr. of LSU would provide them just that, especially when paired opposite of veteran Steve Smith. Should Carolina elect to let Greg Hardy depart as a salary cap casualty instead of electing to use the franchise tag on him, DE could also be a consideration, although there should still be depth at that position in the second round.

29. New England Patriots - Ra'Shede Hageman, DT, Minnesota: With Vince Wilfork aging and injury prone, New England can use a disruptive DT to either play along side or ultimately replace him. Ra'Shede Hageman's size and versatility make him an ideal fit in a Bill Belichick defense. In fact, after playing in relative anonymity at Minnesota, he could end up being the steal of the draft.

30. San Francisco 49ers - Brandin Cooks, WR, Oregon State: The 49ers biggest obstacle to returning to the Super Bowl are their division rivals, the Seahawks. The best way to counteract Seattle's super-sized secondary is with quickness, and that's where an explosive player like Brandin Cooks at slot receiver could help not only negate the size advantage in Seattle's secondary, but possibly even turn it into a liability.

31. Denver Broncos - Stephon Tuitt, DE, Notre Dame: Denver has plenty of needs on the defensive side of the ball. With Shaun Phillips and Robert Ayers set to test the free agent market and Derek Wolfe coming off of an injury, the Broncos could start with a solid 3-4 defensive end like Stephon Truitt of Notre Dame. CB and S could also be considerations, but may not be positions of value when Denver picks at #31.

32. Seattle Seahawks - Xavier Su'a-Filo, G/T, UCLA: The Seahawks have very few weaknesses after winning the Super Bowl, although they will still be facing a few decisions involving the salary cap. The interior of their offensive line is an area that could be upgraded with Xavier Su'a-Filo of UCLA who projects as a G in the NFL, but also has the ability to play either tackle position.

2nd Round

33. Houston Texans - Will Sutton, DE/DT, Arizona State: With Antonio Smith set to test free agency, the Texans will be looking for another disruptive end to pair opposite of J.J. Watt.

34. Washington Redskins - Allen Robinson, WR, Penn State
: The Pigskins have no legitimate WR aside from Pierre Garcon. Allen Robinson of Penn State would give RGIII another viable target and take some pressure off of their running game.

http://www.hogshaven.com/2014/2/14/5411196/washington-redskins-2014-draft-need-vs-value

35. Cleveland Browns - Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech: After addressing QB and WR in the first round, the Browns can sure up their secondary in the second. RB Carlos Hyde could also be a consideration, but as of right now I have him lasting to when Cleveland picks at the top of round three.

36. Oakland Raiders - Scott Cricton, DE, Oregon State: Once again, the Raiders need impact players at nearly every skilled position. DE is one of those, and Scott Crichton of Oregon State dominated in the Pac-12 the past few seasons.

http://blog.sfgate.com/raiders/2014/01/16/some-other-quick-hits-from-the-mckenzie-chat/

37. Atlanta Falcons - Dominique Easley, DE, Florida: The Falcons had two major needs heading into the draft at LT and DE. After nabbing an elite T in the first round, Atlanta will look to one of the second tier DE's in the second round. Dominique Easley of Florida would have been 1st round prospect but for a knee injury that cut his season short. Not only does Easley have the explosion to get to the passer, but he's a desirable high motor guy as well.

38. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Loucheiz Purifoy, CB, Florida: With the Bucs moving back to a "Tampa-2" defense under new defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, they will need to modify their secondary to better fit that system. Johnthan Banks struggled with his tackling as a rookie last season, and the "Tampa-2" places even more of a premium on CB's who can play the run. Local product Loucheiz Purifoy of Florida is an aggressive player who will be a physical upgrade over Banks, who could be relegated to more of a nickel role.

39. Jacksonville Jaguars - Derek Carr, QB, Fresno State: Finding it too difficult to pass Jadeveon Clowney with the third pick in the draft, the Jags must then find their QB of the future. Derek Carr is the only other signal caller who fits that bill, although Jacksonville may have to trade up back to the end of the first round to make sure that they get him.

40. Minnesota Vikings - Cyril Richardson, G, Baylor: While Baylor offensive linemen have not fared well in the NFL in recent years, Cyril Richardson would give the Vikings another road grading blocker to pair alongside Phil Loadholt, which would be a terrifying thought for opposing defenses as they pave the way for all world RB Adrian Peterson.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1920914-minnesota-vikings-2014-mock-draft-who-is-the-ideal-pick-in-every-round/page/2

41. Buffalo Bills - Antonio Richardson, T, Tennessee: While the Bills have finally found a competent LT in Cordy Glenn, RT was still a liability for them last season. Antonio Richardson could help stabilize that position and potentially compete for a starting spot at LT in the future, which would allow Glenn to move to a position like RG or RT where he could put his big frame to better use.

http://q.usatoday.com/2014/02/10/buffalo-bills-nfl-draft-needs-offseason-plan-top-prospects/

42. Tennessee Titans - Cyrus Kouandjio, T, Alabama: Cyrus Kouandjio's performance at the Scouting Combine may have dropped him out of the first round due to concerns about his quickness and ability to play LT, but Tennessee needs help on the right side, where Kouandjio would vastly improve their running game.

43. New York Giants - David Yankey, G/T, Stanford: As the Giants try to rebuild their offensive line to take some pressure off of Eli Manning, David Yankey of Stanford would give them another versatile player would could either excel at G, or fill-in for the time being at T.

http://www.nj.com/giants/index.ssf/2014/02/david_yankey_nfl_draft_stanford_guard_could_be_perfect_fit_for_giants.html

44. St. Louis Rams - Kyle Van Noy, OLB, BYU: The Rams also have glaring needs in their secondary, but can find better value at OLB in Kyle Van Noy of BYU, who can not only rush the passer, but drop into coverage as well.

http://live.stltoday.com/Event/Joe_Strauss_Live_22?Page=1

45. Detroit Lions - Jordan Matthews, WR, Vanderbilt: Jordan Matthews may not be the fastest WR in the draft, but he might be the most polished. With route running and film study often outweighing speed when it comes to transitioning to the NFL, Matthews might not only be one of the safer picks at WR, but he would be an ideal compliment to Calvin Johnson as someone who can get open in single coverage and reliably catch the ball.

46. Pittsburgh Steelers - Davante Adams, WR, Fresno State: The Steelers are looking for a big receiver to play opposite of Antonio Brown, and if they pass on Mike Evans in the first round in favor of some much needed help on defense, Davante Adams of Fresno State could fill that role.

http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/steelers/2014/02/12/Gerry-Dulac-s-Steelers-chat-transcript-2-12-14/stories/201402120146

47. Dallas Cowboys - Dion Bailey, S, USC: After grabbing a 4-3 DT like Aaron Donald, Dallas would be ecstatic to land a S with excellent coverage skills like Dion Bailey, which is also a necessity in the "Tampa-2."

48. Baltimore Ravens - Joe Bitonio, T, Nevada: Nobody saw their stock improve more at the Scouting Combine than Joe Bitonio of Nevada, who moved extremely well and backed up his performances on film against top opponents like UCLA and Florida State. With Eugene Monroe set to hit free agency, Bitonio would be a cheaper fit at LT for the Ravens.

49. New York Jets - Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Washington: After addressing WR in the first round, the Jets could overhaul their receiving corps by selecting an elite TE like Austin Seferian-Jenkins or Jace Amaro in the second.

http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2014/02/nfl_combine_jets_have_options_if_they_want_to_supplement_tight_end_position_in_nfl_draft.html

50. Miami Dolphins - Gabe Jackson, G, Mississippi State: Miami needs as many offensive linemen as they can find, and Gabe Jackson of Mississippi State would give them an elite G to pair alongside C Mike Pouncey.

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-askomar,0,6671297.story

51. Chicago Bears - Craig Loston, S, LSU: After addressing DT in the first round, a S with cover corner skills like Craig Loston of LSU would go a long way in re-stocking the Bears defense with talent heading into 2014.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/25699718-606/bears-challenged-to-fix-defense-like-they-fixed-offense.html

52. Arizona Cardinals - Jack Mewhort, G/T, Ohio State: Jack Mewhort of Ohio State would give the Cardinals much needed versatility on their offensive line, as well as a much needed option at LT in the short term. Should they address LT in free agency, the Cardinals could also look at a speedy WR at this spot.

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest

53. Green Bay Packers - Dee Ford, OLB, Auburn: After unsuccessfully trying to convert several college DE's to play OLB in their 3-4 defense, it's time for Green Bay to go in the other direction and find a more athletic college LB to play opposite Clay Mathews. Auburn's Dee Ford showed the skills to rush the passer, drop in coverage, and contain the edge in BCS Title Game and at the Senior Bowl, which were traits that Green Bay's OLB's noticeably lacked in their Divisional Playoff game loss against Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers.

54. Philadelphia Eagles - Jarvis Landry, WR, LSU: With Jeremy Maclin, Riley Cooper and Jason Avant all set to test the free agency market, the Eagles will need a WR even in the event that they can re-sign one of those players. With his willingness to go over the middle and block, Jarvis Landry of LSU would be an ideal fit in the slot for the Eagles.

http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/sports/eagles/Eagles-seven-round-mock-draft.html

55. Cincinnati Bengals - Marcus Smith, DE, Louisville: Michael Johnson was a disappointment at DE in his contract year, so Cincinnati would be better off finding a replacement and letting him walk than overpaying him. Marcus Smith of Louisville was not only the heart and soul of one of the nation's top defenses, but also one of college football's best pass rushers.

56.  San Francisco 49ers - Jason Verrett, CB, Texas Christian: With Tarell Brown scheduled to hit free agency, the 49ers need to find a potential replacement at CB in the draft. Even in the event that Brown returns, Jason Verrett of Texas Christian could see plenty of action as the 49ers nickel back.

57. San Diego Chargers - Bradley Roby, CB, Ohio State: After a strong Junior season, Bradley Roby not only had off the field issues, but he flat out played himself out of the first round of the draft. Nonetheless, his past performance, size and 40-yard dash time at the Combine make him an intriguing prospect with high upside.

58. New Orleans Saints - Trent Murphy, DE, Stanford: Despite some who say otherwise, I think the Saints are fairly set at WR in terms of playmakers and depth barring any salary cap casualties. Trent Murphy would give New Orleans a much needed pass rusher from the edge in Rob Ryan's 3-4 defense.

http://www.theneworleansadvocate.com/sports/saints/8414018-171/the-top-five-things-the

59. Indianapolis Colts - Dakota Dozier, G/T, Furman: The Colts would be wise to bolster the interior of their offensive line with at least two of their picks in this year's draft. While Dakota Dozier may seem like a reach in the second round based upon his early draft projections, his strong showings at the Senior Bowl and the Scouting Combine have alleviated some of his "small school" concerns and make him an intriguing prospect as an athletic G who can pull in the running game.

60. Carolina Panthers - Kareem Martin, DE, North Carolina: With Greg Hardy destined to either earn the "Franchise Tag" or leave in free agency, the Panthers need to look to the future and draft an impact 4-3 DE. Kareem Martin of North Carolina has the size and production to step in sooner than later if needed.

http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2014/01/18/4622224/carolina-panthers-are-ready-to.html#.UvfcJbTDUmI

61. San Francisco 49ers - Ryan Shazier, LB, Ohio State: From a strict best player available approach, Ryan Shazier of Ohio State may be the best option for the 49ers if they've addressed their needs at WR and CB by the time they pick at #61. This pick could also be used as ammunition to trade up from either pick #30 or #57 if there is a player that they really like at WR or CB.

http://www.insidebayarea.com/49ers/ci_25200508/san-francisco-49ers-need-bolster-receiving-corps-possibly

62. New England Patriots - Jace Amaro, TE, Texas Tech: With his size and receiving ability, Jace Amaro seems to be New England's prime target to replace Aaron Hernandez at TE.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1967930-karen-guregian-patriots-focusing-on-aaron-hernandez-clone-jace-amaro-at-te\

63. Denver Broncos - Deone Buchanon, S, Washington State: With Rahim Moore coming off of an injury and Mike Adams hitting free agency, Denver has a need at S. Deone Buchanon of Washington State was not only a playmaker in coverage, but he was strong against the run as well.

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_25175895/broncos-prepare-address-needs-upcoming-nfl-draft

64. Seattle Seahawks - Stanley Jean-Baptiste, CB, Nebraska: Stanley Jean-Baptiste is not the fastest CB, but he has incredible size. There's probably no better mutual fit between team and player than Jean-Baptiste and the Seahawks, where he can spell and then ultimately replace Brandon Browner as one of the super-sized DB's that they prefer.

Detroit Lions Potential Picks, Rounds 3 - 7

Here's how the rest of the 2014 Draft could work out in terms of projected value and need for the Detroit Lions:

Round 3,  Pick No. 12 - Jimmie Ward, S, Northern Illinois: Jimmie Ward is a bit undersized at S, but he makes up for with his range in coverage. And while strong safety Glover Quinn is solid, he lacks elite speed, which would make Ward an ideal pairing for him to replace Louis Delmas, who also saw his range limited due to chronic knee problems in recent years.

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/tag/_/name/jimmie-ward

Round 4, Pick No. 11 - Weston Richburg, C, Colorado State: Not only is Weston Richburg one of the top three centers in this year's draft, but he seems to be very interested in playing for the Lions. The feeling should be mutual. With Dominic Raiola nearing the final years of his career, Richburg can serve as an understudy and even help the Lions out at G. Gabe Ikard could also be a later round option at C.

http://www.mlive.com/lions/index.ssf/2014/01/detroit_lions_weston_richburg.html

Round 4, Projected Compensatory Pick - C.J. Fiedorowicz, TE, Iowa: In the event that the Lions let the much maligned Brandon Pettigrew walk in free agency, they will be looking for a hybrid TE who can block and serve as a weapon in the passing game. at 6-5 and 260 pounds, C.J.

That would make a lighter and athletic OLB like Denicos Allen as an ideal late round pick as someone who can both drop back into coverage and rush the passer.

http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/tag/_/name/denicos-allen

Round 7 - Pick No. 12 - Caleb Sturgis, K, Florida: Until last season, barring a few short term injury fill-ins, the Lions only had two K's since 1980 in Eddie Murray and Jason Hanson. The Lions would have settled for either one of those guys last season. Caleb Sturgis was solid during his career at Florida, and exhibited solid leg strength while consistently making 50+ yard kicks in windy conditions at the Senior Bowl.
